What if there were cameras recording your every move, 24/7?
What if your life were a hit reality TV or internet show?
Would you behave differently? Would you behave the same?
While filming footage for the YouTube videos we have been working on recently, in our efforts to turn them into cash, I have been faced with exactly those questions.
Much of the happenings get lost during editing, of course, but I have to watch them first.
I am forced to come face to face with myself.
How strange it is to watch, as an outside observer, into my own actions.
Let me tell you, I do not always like what I see!
The finished product is, of course, only a small portion of what really occurred.
The reason reality TV is so popular is because people love drama....the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Although I do want to accurately depict our daily lives, I want most of it to be positive.
What I have learned is this: I simply need to change.
I want my life to require many fewer edits.
Even if the viewers are not aware of the things I've taken out, I still am.
I have to choose to practice more patience, love, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, etc...
because, the truth is, someone IS always watching!
Nothing we do is hidden.
I have heard it said that the true test of character is what we do when nobody is looking.
As a good friend of mine always says: If what you are doing would be fine as the headline of the front page of the newspaper, it is probably OK. If not, you might want to reconsider.
